Mark Cipriano
General Partner Corporate Finance, TVM Capital

Mark G. Cipriano joined TVM Capital in February 2000, and serves as general partner in corporate finance at TVM Capital Corporation in Boston, which manages fund generations III to VI. He concentrates on all issues of corporate finance involving life science portfolio companies. He also serves as an observer on various portfolio company boards. Prior to joining TVM Capital, he was Director of Finance for the venture capital firm Ascent Venture Partners in Boston, Massachusetts. Previously, he was a Controller for the Intercontinental Group, Inc. and held auditing positions for the Emerging Business Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, formerly known as Coopers & Lybrand, in Boston. In November 2002, after 20 years of military reserve service in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, he retired as a Commander of a Light Utility Helicopter Company. Mr. Cipriano holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Suffolk University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

 

Robert Kamen, Ph.D.

Dr. Kamen is a consultant to the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.  He is the past President of Abbott Bioresearch Center, Abbott Laboratories’ immunology/oncology drug discovery and biologics production unit in Worcester, Massachusetts and also served on the Abbott Pharmaceuticals Executive Management Committee. Dr. Kamen joined Abbott subsequent to its acquisition of the BASF/Knoll pharmaceutical business in 2001 after serving as BASF Bioresearch Corporation’s President for ten years. He previously played a leadership role at the Genetics Institute, Inc. (later acquired by Wyeth and now Pfizer), where he held a series of increasing senior management positions. In 2005, he co-founded BioAssets Development Corporation, a biotherapeutics company focusing on spinal diseases, and served as its chairman until it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cephalon, Inc. in 2010.  He also serves as a member of other biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical company boards and is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Third Rock Ventures. Dr. Kamen earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Harvard University. 

 

Chris Mirabelli, Ph.D.
Managing Director, HealthCare Ventures

Dr. Mirabelli joined HealthCare Ventures in 2000 and is a Managing Director at the firm. Dr. Mirabelli was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of LeukoSite, Inc. from 1993 through 1999, a company in which HealthCare Ventures was the lead investor. Dr. Mirabelli was also a co-founder of Isis Pharmaceuticals and served with SmithKline and French Laboratories R&D Division. Dr. Mirabelli received his doctorate in molecular pharmacology from Baylor College of Medicine.

 

 

Lauren Silverman, Ph.D.
Managing Director, Novartis Option Fund

Dr. Silverman is a Managing Director of the Novartis Option Fund in Cambridge, MA. Prior to joining the Option Fund she was Global Head of Oncology Research Operations for Novartis. Previously, Dr. Silverman spent much of her career in Licensing & Business Development, first at OSI Pharmaceuticals and later at Pfizer with responsibilities in the areas of CNS, ophthalmology and oncology. She was also a Director of Strategic Alliances and Head of Cell Biology after having been a founding scientist of Cadus Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Silverman was a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Princeton University and earned her doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Utah. She is the author of 12 scientific publications and 4 patents.

 

 

Michael Webb
Founder and former CEO, Anchor Therapeutics

Prior to founding Anchor Therapeutics, Mr. Webb was the Chief Executive Officer of EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1994 through 2005 where he led the company through achieving European approval for its lead product, completing an IPO as well as secondary financings, and negotiating several corporate partnerships. Mr. Webb joined EPIX from CIBA, where he was most recently Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Strategic Planning of CIBA Diagnostics. From 1984 to 1989, Mr. Webb was a senior consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, specializing in healthcare and life sciences. Mr. Webb graduated from the University of Kansas with Bachelors degrees in Biochemistry and Economics; he earned his master’s degree International Relations from Sussex University in the UK and holds an MBA degree with honors from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He was Chairman of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council from 2006-2008, and has also served on Board for the MassBioEd Foundation and currently serves on the Industrial Advisory Board at the Kellogg Center for Biotechnology at Northwestern.  Mr. Webb currently holds the position of Executive Chairman of Virtify.
